RepairIT Kentucky

Richmond, Kentucky

Managed IT in Richmond, where sooner or later somebody asks about your controls.

Managed IT, cybersecurity and helpdesk for Madison County businesses. Independent, vendor-neutral, and fluent in the frameworks your customers and your insurer keep asking about.

Why local matters here

Richmond has an unusual concentration of businesses that get asked hard questions.

Richmond is the seventh-largest city in Kentucky, 34,585 at the 2020 census and around 36,000 now, and it functions as the commercial center for south-central Kentucky. Two institutions shape the economy more than anything else: Eastern Kentucky University, and the Blue Grass Army Depot southeast of town.

The depot and the chemical agent destruction work there support a contractor and subcontractor ecosystem, and that ecosystem carries obligations most small businesses never encounter. A company doing federal subcontract work can find itself subject to specific security requirements written into the contract, with the burden of proving compliance falling on a business that has ten people and no IT department.

We are careful about what we claim here. Formal CMMC assessment is carried out by accredited third-party organizations, and we are not one. What we do is the groundwork underneath it: implementing the controls, documenting what is in place, and getting an environment to the state where an assessment is worth scheduling rather than a guaranteed failure.

Managed IT

Managed IT, and the evidence to go with it

There is no clean line between IT work and security work. The patch that closes a vulnerability, the account disabled the day someone leaves, the backup you have actually restored from: those are the controls a contract, an insurer or a customer asks about, and they are the same tasks that keep the office running.

In Richmond the documentation half carries more weight than it does in most towns. It is not enough for a control to be in place; you have to be able to show it was in place, on a date, with a record. We build environments that produce that evidence as a byproduct of running properly, rather than as a scramble when someone asks.

The framework we score against is NIST CSF 2.0, and the control families that matter for federal subcontract work overlap heavily with it. That means the same work usually serves your cyber insurance application, your customer questionnaires and your contract obligations at once.

Cybersecurity for Richmond organizations

Attackers do not skip you because you are small. They target you because you are. The Managed Security Suite is the layered stack we run for clients, billed as one line:

  • EDR, XDR and MDRdetection and response across endpoints and servers, watched around the clock
  • Backupkept where an attacker with domain admin cannot reach it, and actually restore-tested
  • Vulnerability managementfinding what is exposed before someone else does
  • Microsoft 365 securitywhere most business email compromise starts
  • Awareness trainingwith realistic phishing simulation, because your people are the targeted layer

Who we serve here

Industries we work with in Richmond

Madison County holds a large public university, a federal installation, heavy manufacturing and a regional retail center, inside a county of about ninety thousand people. Very little of it shares a technical profile with anything else.

Federal contractors & subcontractors

Businesses doing work connected to the depot or other federal contracts can inherit specific security requirements through the contract itself. The controls are documentable and achievable for a small business, but not by accident, and the proof matters as much as the practice.

Healthcare & dental practices

Richmond serves as the healthcare center for a wide area south of Lexington. HIPAA changes what backups, access control and offboarding have to look like, and an independent practice carries the same obligations as a hospital with none of the staff.

Manufacturing & distribution

Heavy manufacturing along the I-75 corridor, plus the suppliers and service businesses around it. Where equipment lives on the network, keeping the office side separate from the operational side is a safety matter before it is an IT one.

Professional services

Law offices, accounting firms and insurance agencies serving both the city and the surrounding counties. These are the offices targeted hardest by business email compromise and the ones most often handed a client security questionnaire.

Retail & hospitality

Richmond is where south-central Kentucky shops, and the retail corridor along the eastern bypass reflects that. Card handling brings PCI obligations, and a register that will not process payment on a Saturday is straightforward lost revenue.

Nonprofits & education-adjacent

A large university and a well-known college nearby generate a dense layer of nonprofits, associations and small organizations holding donor and member data, usually with volunteer turnover and access that is granted informally and never removed.

Services

What we do for Richmond businesses

Eight service lines, one accountable partner. Most clients start with one and consolidate the rest as existing contracts come up for renewal.

Why RepairIT

What you get from an independent provider

RepairIT Kentucky is owned and run by Matt Pike and John Harris, with more than thirty years of combined experience across IT and OT engineering, infrastructure, networking and cybersecurity. When the conversation turns to controls and frameworks you are talking to the people who will implement them, not to a salesperson who will hand you off afterwards.

We are vendor-neutral and we do not publish the specific security tools we deploy for clients. We are also explicit about the edges of our scope: we implement and document controls, we do not perform accredited CMMC assessments, and we will say which side of that line a piece of work sits on before you engage us rather than after.

Common questions

IT services in Richmond, KY

Can you get us CMMC certified?

No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. Formal CMMC assessment is performed by accredited third-party assessment organizations, and a provider who implements your controls cannot also be the one who certifies them. What we do is the work underneath: implementing the controls, documenting them, and getting the environment to a state where booking an assessment makes sense.

We were told our contract has security requirements. Where do we start?

With an assessment, and with reading the contract clause carefully, because the requirements vary. We look at your network, endpoints, backups, accounts and access, score it against NIST CSF 2.0, and give you a written prioritized list. That tells you the size of the gap before you commit budget to closing it.

We are a ten person office. Is this realistic for us?

Yes, though it is work. Most of the control families come down to things a small business can genuinely do: multi-factor authentication everywhere, endpoint detection, tested backups, removing access when people leave, and keeping records that show it. The part that defeats small businesses is not difficulty, it is that nobody owns it.

Do you serve Berea?

Yes. Berea, Waco and Madison County generally, along with Fayette, Jessamine, Clark, Scott and Woodford counties and the wider Central Kentucky area.

What does the free assessment involve?

About an hour of your time. We look at your network, endpoints, backups, accounts and access, then score what we find against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and give you a written report with a prioritized list. You keep the report whether or not you hire us.

Do we have to move everything to you at once?

No. Most clients start with one service line and consolidate the rest as existing contracts come up for renewal. Taking an environment over in stages is normal and usually safer than a single cutover.
